OTHER STUDENTS

Students who do not plan to earn a degree from UTSA but are seeking the opportunity to earn some college credit from UTSA may apply as either a special student or a transient student. Such students are normally not eligible for financial aid.

A student can not enroll for a college-level class for credit without first applying for admission and being admitted. For those students not planning to earn a degree from UTSA, but are seeking the opportunity to earn some college credit from UTSA, there are two different ways to apply. For students applying as either a non-degree seeking, special student or a transient student, no academic history from the transferring school(s) is recorded in the UTSA academic history. Also, students in this category are normally not eligible for financial aid.

Transient Status

Applicants actively seeking a degree at a college or university (home institution) other than UTSA may be considered for admission to UTSA as a transient student. Transient enrollment is limited to one semester only. Transient students are non-degree-seeking and are not eligible for financial aid. Applicants wishing to attend UTSA for a period longer then one semester, or in a degree-seeking status, must reapply for admission for the following semester according to the transfer application guidelines. Transient students assume responsibility for selecting courses at UTSA that meet the home institution requirements.

Requirements

Qualified applicants will be in good academic standing, eligible to return to the home institution, and enrolled there during the semester/quarter immediately preceding the selected semester at UTSA. Transient students are not required to participate in the Texas Success Initiative while enrolled at UTSA.

Transient applicant procedures

Submit to the UTSA Admissions Office:

An ApplyTexas Transient Application for the appropriate semester. The application must be received on or before the application deadline for the selected semester.

A non-refundable application fee of $40.

A completed transient form signed and dated by an authorized official of the home institution's registrar office, or an official transcript from the home institution reflecting the student's enrollment during the semester/quarter immediately prior to the selected semester at UTSA. If an official transcript is submitted, it must be determined that the cumulative grade point average is at least a 2.00 on a 4.00 scale, and in good academic standing. Transient forms and official transcripts cannot be faxed.

Special students

Special students are transfer students who enroll in courses only at the undergraduate level without pursuing a degree at UTSA. First-time freshmen and international students may not apply as special students. Because special students are not working toward a degree, they may be ineligible for financial assistance.

Special student application procedure:

Submit to the UTSA Office of Admissions by the deadline for the term seeking enrollment:

The Transfer ApplyTexas application, www.applytexas.org.

NOTE: The application will require that you select a First Choice School. Select the academic area most appropriate for the classes you plan to enroll. You can select the undeclared option for the major. Question #17 on the application is where to indicate that you are applying as a non-degree seeker.

                            The $40.00 non-refundable application fee

An OFFICIAL transcript for the institution(s) from which the most recent thirty (30) undergraduate college-level credits have been earned Applicants with fewer than 30 undergraduate semester credit hours attempted at an accredited college or university must meet the same admission requirements as first-time freshmen, have at least a "C" average (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) on all college-level coursework, and be in good standing at the last institution attended.

Applicants who have attempted 30 or more undergraduate semester credit hours must have at least a C average (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) in the last 30 hours attempted and be in good academic standing at the last accredited college or university attended. Even though admission is based on the last 30 dergraduate semester credit hours attempted, students must list all colleges and universities attended on the admission application. Special students desiring to be regular degree-seeking students must reapply for admission and meet the same admission requirements as those listed for transfer students.

Applications must be submitted in accordance with the application dates stated on this site.
